Other
Changes:
Here are several non-macro changes that made to my set up to make it easier
to use and more hands-free.
Oops, Fix
and Please:
I've changed three standard commands using the method Ruth Rose details
at her web site:
Correct That to Oops
Correct <Any Words> to Fix <Any Words>
Click <Any Button or Menu Item> to Please <Any
Button or Menu Item>
Cap That to Add Caps
No Caps That to Add No Caps
All Caps That to Add All Caps
I made these changes because the alternate commands are both easier to
say and more casual. Saying "Please File," "Please Delete Command," or
even the grammatically strange "Please OK" instead of "Click File," "Click
Delete Command," "Click OK," for example, is more like speaking to an
assistant rather than ordering a computer around. In a subtle way, it's
mentally easier and more instinctual. Please is also much easier on your
vocal cords than Click.
Note that these three commands are not part of the Kim's Macros files.
To make these changes on your computer you must paste the following three
lines at the end of your C:\NatSpeak\Users\<Your User Name>\Current\options.ini
file for NatSpeak version 5:
enx
Press Button=Please %1
enx Correct XYZ Command=Fix %1
enx Correct That Command=Oops
enx Cap That Command=Add Caps
enx No Caps That Command=Add \No-Caps
enx All Caps That Command=Add \All-Caps
Or, if you have NatSpeak
version 4, paste the following gray version of the commands:
Press
Button=Please %1
Correct XYZ Command=Fix %1
Correct That Command=Oops
Cap That Command=Add Caps
No Caps That Command=Add \No-Caps
All Caps That Command=Add \All-Caps
Before changing your options.ini file it's a good idea to save a copy
of your Options.ini file either in the same folder under a different name
like OldOptions.ini or under the same name in different folder, so you
can go back to the original if you want or if something goes wrong.
If you want to make different changes, or more changes to standard commands
see Ruth Rose's more detailed instructions at http://idt.net/~edrose19/comalt.html.
Foot Pedals:
In order to
make NatSpeak completely hands-free, I added Bilbo foot pedals set to
"Close Window" and "Enter." This way, after I exit NatSpeak by voice,
I can shut down Windows without touching the keyboard. I set the third
footpedal to F11, which turns the NatSpeak microphone on and off and is
a very useful alternative to voice when, say, the phone is ringing.
Note: In order to set the Bilbo pedal to F11, NatSpeak must be either
off or the microphone on/off hotkey temporarily set to something
other than F11. The settings are in NatSpeak under Options, Hotkeys. Say
"Show Options" to get to it by voice. (NatSpeak's default microphone on/off
hotkey is the +, but if you leave it this way you can't use this Key or
voice macros to expand and contract menus in Windows Explorer, so it's
best to reset it to F11. See the Windows Explorer section for a full explanation.)
I find it easier to click the foot pedals when they are turned around
backwards. Bilbo's web site is www.bilbo.com.
Keep in mind that feet are less suited to pressing buttons than hands
are, and use the footpedals for things you don't do frequently. In addition,
pay attention to how your neck is working when you're using the footpedals.
