Commands Common to Several Programs: Open, Save As, Find, Replace and Font

The Open, Save As, Find, Font and Replace windows are common elements of several different programs, and the following macros work in those windows in the various programs. Say "Open File," "Save As," "Please Find," "Please Replace" and "Font Size/Style/Type" to get to these windows from one of these programs. In addition, you can say "Go (Open In) <LookinDrivesFiles>," or "Save As <LookinDrivesFiles>" from any of Open or Save As programs to save the step of saying "Open File" or "Save As" first.

Word, Notepad, WordPad, NatSpeak, Netscape, Eudora, Cute HTML, Dreamweaver, Fusion, Photoshop, Paint Shop Pro, and Quick View -- Open:
Note: Word has a more extensive list of Open macros in addition to this common list. Those macros are listed in the word section. Quick View's group is "Select a File" rather than "Open." These macros work in Paint Shop Pro's "Open" window and also its similar "Batch Conversion" window, which opens with the command "Batch Conversion." They also work in Dreamweaver's "Select Image Source" window, which opens with the command "Insert Image."

Look In
Go (Look)    Back/Next/Forward
["Go Back" goes back to the place you were last. The following "Back Folder" macros go back to the parent folder of the file or folder you are on.]
Back (Back to) (Go)    Folder
Back (Back to) (Go)    Folder    1-10
File    Name/Type/All/Text/Word
Show    List/Details
[WordPad and Word only.]
Show    Properties/Preview    * [Word only.]
Open/Cancel    Two (Both)    [Netscape only. This simply clicks two Open or Cancel buttons because you have to go through two layers of Open windows when you are opening a local file in Netscape.]

Go (Look In)    <LookinDrivesFiles>
[This takes you directly to a category of files.]

Look in Drives Files:
A Drive/C Drive/D Drive/E Drive/F Drive/G Drive/H Drive/I Drive/CD (CD Drive)/Zip (Zip Drive)/Desktop/Download/My Computer/My Documents/My Images/My Data/My Common/Program Files/Network/Kim/Eric/Kim common/Eric common/TRN Images/Story Media/Scriven Media/Site Graphics...
Note: the last few files are very specific to my computer. You will probably want to delete some of these and add some of your own. To change these files, use the Windows Explorer macro " Add Go To    <Open Programs>." See the Windows Explorer section for a full explanation of this macro.

Open    <Folder>

[This selects the folder of your choice and presses Enter. The following macro does the same, then continues another level down to a subfolder of your choice under the folder of your choice. Note that this is a simpler macro then the above "Go" macro, which allows you to go directly to any file from any place. This macro will select the folder of your choice only if it exists on the screen you are on.]
Open    <Folder>    <Subfolder>    [Word, WordPad, Notepad and NatSpeak only.]
Add/Show    Open    Folder/Subfolder    [This allows you to look at or add to the My Documents Folder or My Documents Subfolder list. Note that these lists are of my folders and subfolders. You can use this macro to delete these and add your own. Note: you must change the Folder and Subfolder lists separately for separate programs. This allows main different sets of folders and subfolders for different programs.]

Word, Notepad, WordPad, NatSpeak, Netscape, Cute HTML, Dreamweaver, Fusion, Photoshop, Paint Shop Pro, Quick View, and Windows Explorer -- Save As: Note: Netscape's group is "Save Bookmarks" rather than "Save As." Quick View's group is "Save Copy."

File Name
Add to Filename
Save As    Type/Text
Save As    Rich (Rich Text)
[WordPad only]
Save    In/That
Save Version [Word only]

Go (Save In) <LookinDrivesFiles>

[This works just like the "Look in <LookinDrivesFiles>" macro above, but in the Save As window instead of the Open File window.]
Go (Look)    Back/Next/Forward
Back (Back to) (Go)    Folder
Back (Back to) (Go)    Folder    1-10

Word, Notepad, WordPad, NatSpeak, Dreamweaver, Netscape and Internet Explorer -- Find:
Note: The Windows Explorer Find window has its own commands because it's more complicated.

Find
    Next (Again) (Please) (Now)/Another/Close
[Next, Again, Please, and Now are just four different ways to say "Find Next." "Find Another" combines Find Next with closing the Find window. Keep in mind there is also a global command "Find Another," which finds the next instance of the last thing you typed in the find window, then closes the window. "Find Close" combines "Find Next" and "Close". Note that you can use this command, then use the "Find Next" command that works in the programs to find words without having the Find window open all the time.]
Find    What
Match    Case/Whole
Find    1-10

Find    Up/Down
[Word, Notepad, Netscape and Internet Explorer only.]
Find    Format/Special/More    [Word only.]
Find    Page/Line    1-100    [Word only.]
Find/Drop    In/What    [Dreamweaver only.]
Okay Both (Cancel)    [This command clicks both OK and Cancel in the Find and Replace Windows. This speeds up getting out of Find or Replace when you are done.]

Word, WordPad, Dreamweaver and NatSpeak -- Replace:

Find    Next/What
Replace    With/All
Find (Please Find)/
Replace (Please Replace)    1-20
Match    Case/Whole

Find    All
